Monday’s aren’t so bad when you don’t have to go to work, huh? Hopefully, you’re taking advantage of it already. However, if you need some tips and ideas on where to go later on tonight, here are a couple of weekly Monday night events that should help cap what I hope has already been an entertaining three-day weekend.
Messy Mondays – 9 PM – Harlem Supper Club (454 W. 128th Street): Once again, the Harlem Supper Club is getting messy on Mondays and is offering free entry to any and all young professionals. Last week, I was told it got pretty rowdy at the old Supper Club. Given that today is a day off for many of you, I’m sure this evening won’t be any less entertaining.
The Love Hangover, featuring Rick Moody & Tracy Bonham
Union Hall (702 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY): From the website:
On this evening every year, the world-weary and the true believers
alike huddle in pairs, playing songs to heal broken hearts
and break whole ones. Local luminaries of the music scene
come two by two and each duo performs love songs
to hold forth on love in all of its many guises: the joy,
the pain, the humor, the frustration, the ecstasy, the agony,
the list goes on and on, just like love.

Marc Jacobs Fashion Show – 8 PM
Bryant Park: This is by invite only, but if you are not lucky enough to have a ticket or a press-pass to this event, then you can view the show live show via webstream at Marc Jacobs’s website (marcjacobs.com).
“A Behanding in Spokane” (Play) – 8 PM
The Schoenfeld Theatre (236 W. 45th Street): This is a preview event of Martin McDonagh’s first play set in America. Christopher Walken stars as Carmichael and Anthony Mackie and Zoe Kazan are also among the cast. The story covers a “rollercoaster of love, hate, desperation and hope” as Carmichael searches for his long, lost left-hand. Sounds funny. Check it out here.
Bottles Up Monday
Suzie Wong’s (27th Street Btw 10th & 11th Ave): DJ Will and DJ Snap will be on the 1’s and 2’s spinning nothing but hip hop and R&B. To join the fun at absolutely no cost, join the guest list by emailing bottlesup@gmail.com. There is an open bar from 11 to midnight, so take advantage of your day off and get there early.
Salsa Mondays
Taj Lounge (48 21st Street): I know most people on the Black Oak Nights list are not too fond of seeing the club turn into an all-salsa affair for 30 minutes at a time; however, many of you don’t mind knowingly putting yourself in the midst of the sexy, Latin dance that is salsa. Well, Taj has an all salsa event each and every Monday, and it is a whole lot of fun. I recommend that any New Yorker that still doesn’t know how to salsa check this out, because this is a good opportunity for young, black professionals to learn this seductive dance.
Good Eating: All You Can Eat Ribs & Wings
Brother Jimmy’s (UWS Location): You know I like to throw out a “Good Eating” locale at least once a week. Brother Jimmy’s is probably one of the better spots to check out tonight, because it’s always popping and the food is great. Best of all, every Monday they have an all-you-can-eat wings & rib-tibs special that just can’t be beat. You can drink all of the beer you want to, as well, so take advantage of this on your day off of work!
