The Monday after the Super Bowl probably isn’t the most productive day of the year, which explains why there aren’t many people planning parties for this evening. However, with Fashion Week in our sights, there are a few things to check out this week, and a couple of places to get “thrown.”
“Messy Mondays” Harlem Supper Club (454 W. 128th Street): If you thought finding a party north of 96th Street on a Monday was going to be difficult, think again. There’s plenty going on in Harlem, including at the area’s own Harlem Supper Club where plenty of young, black professionals are celebrating Harlem nightlife, starting at 9:00pm.
“New Flavor Monday’s”
Sapphire Lounge (249 Eldridge Street): This party will have a little help tonight from 98.7 Kiss FM’s own DJ ChuckChillout at the 1’s and 2’s. There is a cover charge of $10 to get in, but the music is on point, and the clientele is worthy of your presence, so check it out if you’ve got an itch to work off all that pizza you ate yesterday.
“Laid Off Mondays”
The Delancey (168 Delancey): Not sure who’s going to show up, but if you’ve had a tough Monday, you might not care. You’ve definitely had a tough Monday if you’re still in search of employment, which is why The Delancey is giving away free shots of tequila with proof of unemployment. While typically, the trip to the Lower East Side isn’t worth a free shot of liquor, the type of people that show up here might make it worth the subway ride and consequent walk.
“Good Eating”
1849 (183 Bleecker Street): If food is your purpose after work tonight, 1849 is probably one of the better places to be on a Monday night. Their semi-weekly all-night wings discount is one of the most popular things going on in the Village. You’ll see everybody from NYU Law students to your usual village Bohemian here sipping on ½ price well-drinks and eating 20-cent wings.
Staying in?
HBO: Tonight, HBO is airing its third installment of “The Black List,” a series profiling the success stories of various black men and women. MicahJesse.com had an interesting take on it:
The film was moving to say the least. There were many times we just couldn’t help but clap after an inspiring interview with a notable, such as Lee Daniels, Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend or Beverly Johnson, who were all featured in the film.
Elvis Mitchell, who hosts the interviews in the film, took a joke from Chris Rock saying, “Why is February Black History Month?”“Because the man wouldn’t give us a full thirty days.”
The audience erupted in laughter at that one…I mean Chris Rock is hysterical. Read More…
LOOK AHEAD:
Valentine’s Day Dinner & a Movie
BAM Rose Cinemas (30 Lafayette Street, Brooklyn): If you’re like me, you’re going to be conflicted between Valentine’s Day and the NBA All-Star game. Of course, if you’re like me, you know better than to short your shorty on the 14th. For the lady who loves classic film, you can check out BAM Cinema, which is playing “It Happened One Night” and feeding you dinner. www.bam.org/view.aspx?pid=1859
And make sure you check back on Tuesday, when there’s plenty of stuff happening on the New York Nightlife agenda.
