It may be cold outside (28 degrees as of noon), but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time in the apple tonight. With everything from singing and fashion to clubbing and dancing, there are a slew of things on the nightlife agenda of young, black professionals in New York City.
Fabolous & Friends - Rebel NYC (30th Street between 7th & 8th Avenues): No! I didn’t spell “Fabolous” wrong. That is indeed the signature misspelling of your favorite non-spelling rapper, F-A-B-O-L-O-U-S himself! He is supposed to be in the building tonight, so sure enough this won’t be your average party. Being that it is the eve of Valentine’s Day, there will be plenty of sweetheart specials, including a free giveaway, in which the “sexiest” girl, as selected Fabo himself, will receive a $500 shopping spree! So ladies, if you’re interested in winning the giveaway, come dressed to impress at Rebel tonight. And even if you aren’t interested, ladies, and fellas alike, still need to come correct, because the door is going to be very strict tonight.
Saturday’s at Rumor
Rumor (99 Park Avenue): Forget free before 11! You better get here at 10! Because from 10 to 11pm, Rumor will have an open bar that is absolutely free (and by absolutely free, I mean free with cover charge—sorry). Ladies, however, are free till midnight, and gentlemen pay $15 until midnight, but make sure you say you are on the Sky List guest list. There will be plenty of bottle specials, plenty of hip-hop music, and a plenty of young, black professionals like you making it over to Park Avenue tonight, starting at 10pm.
Love Sexy Saturdays
Retreat (27 West 17th Street): This weekly Saturday night event is well worth the wait in line you will experience just to get in. Fortunately, if you get there before 12, your wait will be rewarded with a no cover admission. However, gentlemen will need to have a woman on their arm in order to get in the building, and I don’t think they are going to be in for a whole lot of exceptions on the night before Valentine’s Day—if you know what I’m saying. DJ Moma will be on the 1’s and 2’s, spinning nothing by hip-hop, reggae and R&B. Trust me when I tell you that this will be one of the sexiest crowds in NYC tonight, so make sure you’re dressed to compete in what is sure to be a chocolate factory atmosphere.
Red Roses & Black Diamonds
267 Loft (267 5th Avenue): Power 105 DJs will be in charge of the music, so you don’t even have to worry about that part of this event. The only thing you have to worry about is the undeniable Valentine’s Day theme that will be circulating throughout 267 Loft and all of its customers tonight. This annual event brought out a grip of people last year, and it’s sure to be no less popular tonight, as birthday parties, models, dates and high-rollers are sure to be on the premises. Their big special is (of course) the Red Roses & Black Diamonds package, where you can buy free group admission, skip the line, receive a birthday cake, get a shout out from the DJ and score 3 bottles of top shelf liquor. Naturally, there is a heavy price to pay for all of that, but they assured me that it is at a tremendous discount, so I’ll take their word for it.
Launch of MyFDB.com Hosted by Zoe Saldana
Provocateur (18 Ninth Avenue): This is an extremely exclusive event for Zoe Saldana’s new website. However, I heard the door won’t be too strict, so if you play your cards right, come dressed to impress, and are with a bunch of young ladies, you should be able to get in; just let them know you’re there for the MyFDB.com launch party specifically.
Socialite Saturdays
D’Or (204 W. 55th Street): Most of you already know this, but Club D’Or is one of the best spots in Manhattan, as it has a very comfortable design and almost always has great DJs. Tonight, DJ Shadee & Alkalin are going to be on the turntables. While they may play a little more Reggaeton then my crowd would like, they do a great job of mixing in hip-hop and Top 40 music, so you won’t have a problem with the music selection at all. Ladies are free all night, and fellas reduced early on. There is an open bar from 10pm to 11pm to lure you’re into the club early, but in my experiences with D’Or, you won’t be the only ones there even if you decide to get there “fashionably early.”
