Tuesday Rundown: February 9, 2010

Posted by Black Oak On February - 9 - 2010

There’s so much to do on this average Tuesday that I don’t even know where to begin. Today’s Tuesday Rundown is just the beginning, keep checking out our twitter feed for more of tonight’s events.

Luxurious TuesdaysNegril Village (70 W. 3rd Street): This is certainly one of the better afterwork venues in New York City. The food at Negril Village is off the chain, and the service is just as comparable. This is the “grand re-opening” of this popular afterwork event, so it’s likely to be one of its more livelier nights. Check it out if you’re down for good food, good service and good music.

Off Duty Tuesdays
Promenade
(215 W. 28th Street): Seal Team Corporate is hosting an afterwork party at the infamous Promenade, where the lines are long and the receipts are usually even longer. To top it off, there is a $20.00 cover. Typically, I wouldn’t promote such an expensive outing for your typical Tuesday night, but this event is sure to bring out some of cream of the crop, so I thought you ought to be aware of it. To offset some of the high costs, there ware drink specials from 6-8, including Grey Goose mixed drinks. There will be nothing but hip-hop and R&B at this event, so if you don’t salsa, no need to worry about Latin jazz taking up 20 minute intervals.

New York Knicks vs. Sacramento Kings
Madison Square Garden
: The only good thing about the Knicks playing awful basketball is that going to a game is much easier than it was during the 90’s. Now you can buy tickets the day of the game and at an extreme discount. For just $5 you can get upper level tickets to tonight’s game against the Kings. If David Lee and Nate Robinson aren’t good enough reasons to head out to the Garden, rookie sensation Tyreke Evans is worth the five bucks for sure.

A-List Tuesdays
Cain Luxe
(544 W. 27th Street): There’s a $20 entry fee for guys at this event, but this a real party and not just an afterwork event, so I’ll let it slide. The promoters of this event are preaching live performances from well-known artists. I won’t dare co-sign on those charges, but if that’s the case, this may be the spot to be tonight. Do dress slick and sexy for this one though, because they are going to have a really strict dress code. And any young, black professionals hoping to get in here without a lady on their arm or in their group might want to be prepared to spend a few dollars on bottle service.

Standup Comedy
Comix
(353 W. 14th Street): I told you about it yesterday on the Black Oak Nights Twitter feed (@blackoaknights.com), but here it is again. Hannibal Buress, of The Awkward Kings of Comedy, is on the stage tonight doing his thing at Comix. The tickets are probably going to be around $25 at the door, but this dude is worth the price of admission. If you haven’t seen him, (or watched his written work on SNL), check him out below, and you can buy tickets at comixny.com.

Staying In?
FOX
: American Idol is going to Hollywood tonight, which means Ellen is finally going to make her appearance on the show. So if you’re not going anywhere, and you still consider Idol even remotely relevant, then Fox may be your best option tonight.
