It’s Tax day. Hopefully, you’re not among the 33% that still file their taxes by mail. If you are; shame on you!
That said, e-filer or not, you still deserve to get down tonight after paying a significant amount of income to a federal government that barely cares whether or not you have healthcare. So without further adieu, here is the Thursday Nightlife Rundown for April 15, 2010.
Free Starbucks! – All Morning
Starbucks: That’s right! Free coffee from the world’s foremost coffee maker. Starbucks is trying to help you get over paying all those federal income taxes by handing over a cup of brewed coffee. There is a catch. To help promote a better Earth, Starbucks wants you to bring in a reusable, travel coffee mug in order to get your free cup of Joe. That’s a small price to pay if you’re a big time Starbucks lover.
Honey I’m Home – 6pm
Honey (243 West 14th Street): DJ Kaos will be in charge of the music at Honey tonight, which means the place is sure to have a musical selection befitting of a Tax Day celebration. Honey really does put the “A” in afterwork party, because they keep it insanely simple. There is no cover, great music, plenty of sexy, young, black professionals and the food isn’t bad either. It’s not a place you want to be all night, and you should bring your friends, but if you’re looking for a place where you can sit back, chill and do a two-step from time to time, Honey is the place for you.
Empire Thursdays – 7pm
Empire Hotel (44 West 63rd Street): Hey, you better get outside while you can, because while today may be a 74-degree mirage, tomorrow the high temperature is back in the 50’s, and it’s supposed to stay that way throughout the entire weekend. So take advantage of today’s great weather by getting out on the roof of Empire Hotel. Entry is free after 8pm, which is a perfect time to look at the beautiful New York skyline during the “start” of spring. The party will last until 4am, so don’t come out unless you’re ready to stay for a while, because trust me—you won’t want to leave!
Girls Night Out – 10pm
Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street): The ladies already know that Webster Hall is the place to be on a Thursday night. Ladies are free all night long, while the fellas have to pay premium to join in on the fun. DJ Massive B will be in the building tonight, so the hip-hop basement is sure to be jumping, and even the main floor is scheduled for a little R&B flavor throughout the night. Listen, if you’re looking for the big party, super club experience tonight, you’re not going to do better than Webster Hall. So make your way over to the East side for this one, and just try not to spend that refund check all in one place!
Secret Society Thursdays – 11pm
Promenade (215 West 28th Street): Promenade is bumping tonight with a sophisticated and sexy party that will attract a young and diverse crowd. Come dressed correct or you are not getting inside, especially the ladies, who do not have to pay a cent to get in. Guys, you do have to come out of pocket on this one, but it may be worth your while since the ladies will be in full force and the music is sure to be off the chain, with nothing but hip-hop and R&B on the 1’s and 2’s.
Burger Bash – 7pm
Village Pourhouse (64 3rd Avenue): If you’re a burger connoisseur, you do not want to be any other place in New York City tonight. At Village Pourhouse, for $25, an experienced chef will teach you how to make the perfect burger. Even if you don’t care about how to make it, then at least show up and show everybody how to eat it. Your $25 bill will also get you all the burger you can eat, limitless toppings, some fries on the side and complimentary Bud Light. So if you were planning on having a burger and a beer tonight, skip your usual diner and hit up Village Pourhouse this evening.
Planet Rock Thursdays – 6pm
Mars 2112 (1633 Broadway): As the heat goes up, Mars 2112 starts to get it popping. Tonight, you can experience the ultimate afterwork party, and it is completely free (before 8pm) if you mention the “1 Vision” guestlist. From 6pm to 7pm, Mars 2112 is having a happy hour that consists of $5 cosmos and martins and $3 beers; plus, they have half price appetizers during the hour. And then from 7pm to 8pm, you can get the $8 drink of the hour—whatever that is. There will be plenty of bottle specials, nothing but hip-hop music, and a load of young, black professionals representing to the fullest.
Box NYC – 6pm
Roseland Ballroom (239 West 52nd St): Box NYC is the ultimate event combining all sorts of entertainment into one night of never-ending fun. This will be a very diverse event, not just in clientele, but just in the nature of the activities. The night starts with an open bar, dinner and then a casino setting. While you’re gambling, you can enjoy an amateur boxing match in the background and dine on cocktails and appetizers. At 10pm, the feature fight will begin, and before 11pm you can collect your gambling losses and head home. Now where else can you eat, drink, gamble and watch a fight? Okay, you can do all that in Vegas, but this isn’t Nevada last time I checked; so enjoy the variety! BTW, there’s a huge starting ticket price ($100), and you have to register in advance (www.box-nyc.com).
