The only way to celebrate the end of the work week is to do it in style. After all, you spend all week working for some company that preaches being the best, doing the best and behaving the best, so why not celebrate with the best and as one of the best? There are all kinds of things going on this Friday night, and we did our best to comb through the rest. So enjoy the weather, get outside, and then holla at one of these events on the Black Oak Nights Friday Nightlife Rundown for May 21, 2010.

Subway Series – 7pm
Citi Field
(Queens): The Red Sox and Yankees play all the time, but you know baseball season is here when the cross-town rivals, the New York Yankees and New York Mets, face off in a battle of the subway! The Yankees will make the trip to Queens and challenge a Mets team that, so far, looks a lot better than it did a year ago. Everyone in New York City who has a remote interest in baseball will be at this game. I suggest you start looking for tickets immediately if you plan on going, because the prices are only going up from here. FYI: you will probably have a much better chance at tickets when the Mets go to Yankee Stadium—I just thought I’d throw that out there.

The House Party – 5pm
Katra Lounge
(217 Bowery Street): Okay, so it’s not an actual house party, but it is awfully close. Where else can you kick back with a drink in your hand, tote on a hookah, and listen to classic, old-school hip-hop music for hours and hours? Well, outside of your own apartment, the only place you can do that at is Katra Lounge, where hookahs, hip-hop and hysteria are the mantra this evening. This party is only for the grown, sexy and sociable, so scrubs and pigeons need not attend. The door will be extremely discriminating, so make sure your work clothes are up to par if you plan on getting in.

Friday Night Roaming – 10pm
Roam
(5 East 19th Street): Roam will have its usual exclusive, hyped, trendy, chic Friday night party, and it won’t be any less fun than it has been in Fridays past. DJ Frank Stylez will work the 1’s and 2’s with an array of different hip-hop, reggae, and Latin tunes. There will be no excuse for standing on the wall and not partaking in the multitude of dancing that will be going on around you. So do us all a favor, if you plan on coming out, be social, be live and be ready to party. Don’t do it for us, do it because you owe it to yourself.

Overtime! – 6pm
Empire Hotel
(44 West 63rd Street): Don’t just clock out for the weekend at the end of the workday this Friday. Instead, put in some overtime at Empire Hotel, where beginning at 6pm you can take part of one of the few evening open bars in all of New York City. Plenty of young, black professionals will take part in this vodka open bar, the skyline viewing and a collection of socialites unlike any other. If socializing and drinking is your thing, I don’t see how you can go wrong by spending the early evening hours with the folks at Empire Hotel.

Donald Glover [Comedy] – 10:30pm
Comix
(353 West 14th Street): If the plan is to laugh at some hysterically black comedy, then Black Oak Nights has you covered. Get your butt over to Comix Comedy Club, where Donald Glover, a great, young comedian, will headline the show tonight with his unusually funny style of standup comedy. If you don’t know who Glover is, he is the funny, young, charming, black guy on NBC’s comedy “Community.” Here he is performing:

Revamp Fridays – 10pm
Pranna
(79 Madison Avenue): DJ C-Lo will have Pranna on lockdown all night long with his usual mix of hip-hop mash-ups and old school jams. While the music should be enough reason to come through, the beautiful, young professionals that frequent Pranna on Fridays ought to sway your nightlife agenda for Friday night. Pranna is always free, always live and always willing to cater to private needs of anyone and everyone who wants to throw a party. Of course, those of you on the “in” probably can finagle a better table in the dining room and in the lounge, but I’m sure you already knew that.

Keith Robinson [Comedy] – 8:30pm
Gotham Comedy Club
(208 West 23rd Street): From GothamComedyClub.com:

Keith Robinson is a comedy veteran whose unique style has propelled him to stardom. Keith has an impressive track record which includes performances at The Improv and The Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, The Comedy Strip in New York, Trump’s Plaza Hotel and countless others. He has also toured internationally in London, Scotland and the Islands… Since Keith leaves the audience screaming and hollering for more, naturally his theme song is Marvin Gaye’s, “Inner City Blues.” Keith is by far one of comedy’s most energetic performers and his commanding stage presence has gained him appearances on MTV, VH1, HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and Louie Anderson’s Comedy Hour.

Sex and the City Party – 10pm
Marquee
(289 Tenth Avenue): Marquee, a featured venue of Sex and the City on at least one occasion, is paying homage to the show/movie that helped bring a brand new wave of young women into the city limits of New York City. Tonight’s theme of “Sex and the City: What character are you?” will certainly draw a huge crowd of diverse, professional, Sex and the City loving women out tonight, and if that’s the crowd you want to be around, then you know where to be. Of course, it wouldn’t be fair if the party’s theme only incorporated the women of the city; thus, Marquee is also on the lookout for the city’s most promising “Mr. Big.” Subsequently, female and male Sex and the City lovers alike have reason to come out to Marquee tonight. Then again, who really needs a reason to go to Marquee?
