The Sunday before Memorial Day is usually a good time to sit back and relax before the hysteria of late night parties and the following Monday barbeques hit you like a bag of bricks. Knowing that, we have your nightlife agenda taken care of, and we have included a hidden gem brunch spot to help you recover from Saturday night and refuel for the night to come on Memorial Day Eve. Here is your Sunday Nightlife Rundown for May 30, 2010.
Nostalgia – 11pm
Amalia (204 West 55th Street): The city-famous JI Group is back and better than ever, as they try to kick off the New York City summer season this Memorial Day Weekend with a party to remember for the rest of the summer. Let me just start off by saying that if you have plans for Monday morning, this is not the event for you. Amalia will be rocking well into the wee hours of the night, and trust me, nobody is going to want to leave there early just because they have to go to a 9 to 5 on a holiday. As with any JI Group party, the music will be off the chain, the people will be flyer than ever, and the atmosphere will be second to none.
Sunday @ Pranna – 10pm
Pranna (79 Madison Avenue): There’s no doubt that when it comes to trendy and fashionable, Pranna is near the top of the list in New York City. Anybody with more than three friends has probably been here for a birthday party, group dinner or cocktail mixer. And if you haven’t been to Pranna before, well there’s no better time to come than this Sunday night, when young, black professionals from across the city will embark upon the establishment as if they don’t have a care in the world. Of course, many of them won’t have a care in the world come Sunday night, because Monday is Memorial Day and 95% of us do not have to work! That’s all the more reason for ladies to make it to Pranna and take advantage of free cocktails through 11pm.
Southampton Hospital’s Westhampton Primary Care Center Benefit – 7pm
Westhampton Country Club (35 Potunk Lane, Westhampton Beach): What better way to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend than with a little charity for those who need it? At Westhampton Beach this Sunday, you will have that chance, as a benefit is held to help raise money. This will be the most fun, lively charity event going on in the Hamptons this weekend as the chairs of the hospital bring dancing, food, cocktails and silent auctions into the mix for your entertainment pleasure. Tickets can be bought here, and you can also buy tickets for just the “dancing and dessert” portion of the night.
Brunch Anyone?
Just Like Mother’s (110-60 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, Queens): Before you get all drunk and crazy tonight, why not get something in your bell first? Well, you will have that option if you hit up “Just Like Mothers” in Queens. No, it’s not a traditional Soul food restaurant, but it does have the quintessentially American brunch options, most notably famous for their potato pancakes. While many of you may prefer the array of midtown and downtown brunch options, bear in mind that the lack of a line at Just Like Mother’s may save you time in the long run.
Hamptons Brunch
East Hampton Point (295 Three Mile Harbor Road, East Hampton): Of course, if you’re not in the city this Sunday, a brunch spot in Queens won’t do you any good. Fortunately, one of the happening nightlife spots doubles as one of the best brunch spots in the Hamptons, and no, the quality of the food is not to be questioned! In fact, as one of handful of waterfront restaurants in the Hamptons, means they have to really stay atop their game. And being on the waterfront they do have a decided advantage when it comes to fresh seafood. East Hampton Point’s raw bar, which is a part of their weekend brunch buffet, is the perhaps one of the best in the area. If you don’t believe me, try it for yourself!
Crimson Blue – 10pm
Crimson (915 Broadway): There’s no doubt that a Three Kings party brings out the best in young, black professionals, and Sunday night at Crimson will not be any different. At Crimson, the venue will be almost as beautiful as the buppies that embark upon it. So ladies, put on those sexy heels, and fellas, it just may be time for that summer sports coat. But no matter what you wear, please leave the gripes and pressures of the world elsewhere and let yourself go at Crimson. Because this crowd is certain to be live and bumpin’, and we really don’t need you bringing the rest of us down.
