The quaint, but great, Pom Pom Diner

The unofficial start to the weekend is here, and the weather gets better and better with every passing day of the week. In today’s rundown we have food, rooftops, river views and eco-friendly partying. Just another day in New York City nightlife, no? Here is the Thursday Nightlife Rundown for May 6, 2010.

Terrace on High – Midnight
Hudson Terrace
(621 West 46th Street): For all of you weeknight, late-night prowlers (and Lord knows I know a lot of you), there’s no better place to stop by on your weekday bar-hopping route than at Hudson Terrace, where the socializing and drinking last well into the wee hours of the morning. Between the glistening views of the Hudson River and the scintillating realness of the sexy young, black professionals on the premises, your eyes might pop out of your head before the night is over. If you are unable to muster up a worthwhile conversation with someone of the opposite sex by night’s end, take you and your friends over to nearby Pom Pom Diner. Try the Florentine Omelet and Challah French toast—oh, believe me; it’s heaven!

Restaurant of the Day
Angelina Pizzabar
(2728 Broadway): Speaking of food…head over to the Upper West Side and try out some of the best brick oven pizza in New York City. Angelina’s is Italian comfort food at its finest, with a zesty lasagna, some of the best sautéed baby clams you will ever taste, and homemade meatballs that make any pasta worth dying for. Of course, there is Angelina Pizzabar’s main dish: the pizza pie. One of the favorites there is the thin-crusted, mushroom and artichoke pizza that gives most vegetarians an orgasm and has carnivores considering a change in philosophy. Today you can get a deal for $20 worth of food for the price of $10, which is good enough to get you a large, specialty pizza. Not a bad deal at all.

Rosario Dawson Birthday Party – 10pm
Kastel
(246 Spring Street): If you have to make your presence known at the beautiful Kastel Lounge in Soho, then you are missing out on life. This place oozes with the grandeur and sexiness of your typical Donald Trump establishment—which is befitting since this is the creation and better half of the new Trump Soho Tower. Actress and social belle Rosario Dawson will be celebrating her birthday in style this evening with a few of her closest 100 friends. If you are able to get inside Kastel, then you too can join the party.

Ladies Night Out – 10pm
Webster Hall
(125 East 11th Street): Ladies, as usual, Black Oak Nights and Webster Hall are looking out for you. The fairer sex is free all night at the ultra-popular mega club, where anything and everything goes on during what is otherwise a typical Thursday night for the rest of New York City. Webster Hall has every kind of music you are looking for, and there will be drink specials for the ladies. Guys, it will cost you all a pretty penny to get inside these doors tonight, but given the likely female to male disparity, this may not be the worst investment in the world.

Rooftop Thursdays – 9pm
Empire Hotel
(44 West 63rd Street): DJ Kenny Summit will be in charge of the music at Empire Hotel Rooftop, where young, black professionals will be in heavy attendance, toasting to yet another great Thursday a top the most lively rooftop in all of New York City. For a rooftop party, the crowd here gets pretty big and pretty wild, all adding up to a pretty good time. If you’re looking to get out and enjoy that New York summer night breeze, there are worse places you could be.

High Life Thursdays – 6pm
Taj
(48 West 21st Street): The only place to be after work this Thursday evening is at Taj Lounge, where the 2-for-1 drinks are flowing until 8pm and the dress code is strictly business—well, business casual anyway. Either way, you better be dressed to impress if you want to get inside the door, never mind trying not to stick out like a sore thumb. DJ Jon Quick returns to control the 1’s and 2’s, which should make this one heck of a night to put on your dancing shoes and work the floor with your best rendition of the Dougie—if you can still get down like that.

Open Bar – 6:30pm
Greenhouse
(150 Varick Street): Greenhouse is more than just another nightclub, it is New York City’s first “eco-friendly” nightclub—or so they say. You have to respect an establishment for going “green” in an industry in which mindless amounts of air conditioning is wasted on people who simply could be outside enjoying the cool summer breeze of a New York City night—but that’s a story for another day. To celebrate its recent opening and green attitude, Greenhouse is offering a vodka open bar that is free for Ladies and $10 for guys. You have to RSVP at overtimenyc.com, and I suggest all gentlemen have ladies in their group.
