Black Oak Nights – New York

Black Nightlife, Events, Parties & People in New York City

Wednesday Rundown: June 30, 2010

It’s Hump Day, and to help you get over it, we are giving you some of New York City’s best events for black people with a conscious. That’s right, whether your conscious is telling you to hit up the bar, check out that sexy mocha thing over there, or just enjoy a refined night of sophistication and fashion, we have you covered this Wednesday night. So without further adieu, here is the Black Oak Nights nightlife rundown for June 30, 2010.

Singles Mixer Night – 6pm
Harlem Lanes
(2116 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd.): They aren’t calling it a black, singles mixer, but I doubt it will be anything other than just that. Expect a truckload of young, black professionals to come through Harlem Lanes for one of the few worthwhile singles mixers you will find in Harlem. The proprietor of Harlem Lanes is from Harlem herself, so you can meet your mate while keeping your hard-earned dollars in the community. The party officially starts at 6pm, but happy hour is at 5pm, so go ahead and swing through early. Drinks are just $3 during happy hour, and Harlem Lanes has a ton of good food. And if you’re on your best behavior, you’ll bowl strikes down the lane instead of striking out with the opposite sex.

Afterwork Wednesdays – 5pm
La Pomme
(37 West 26th Street): It’s Hump Day, and like most Wednesdays, you’re probably in the mood to clock out and head right for the nearest watering hole. Well, extend your hump day trip to the bar for just a few more minutes and you can be a part of Manhattan’s best Wednesday afterwork party for young, black professionals. La Pomme will fill up to the brim with sexy, hard-working, African-Americans as we celebrate just another day of being alive. Admission is free, DJ Kaos is working the 1’s and 2’s, and the dress code is strict. Other than that, holla at Black Oak Nights when you get here.

Unforgettable Wednesdays – 10pm
Skinny
(174 Orchard Street): Okay, you could go home, rest up, take it easy, and catch up on the sleep you missed out on Monday and Tuesday nights. Or you could get your behind off the bed, into your nightlife best, and hit up Skinny to dance the night away. A handful of DJs will work the turntables, spinning nothing but the best in hip-hop, R&B, funk and Old school music. I don’t see how you could possibly go to sleep knowing that an entire contingent of sexy, black men and women are hitting up the club as you lie in your bed. Shame on you! You live just one life, and will be on this Earth for over 4,000 Wednesdays—make the best of it!

Gotham’s New Talent Showcase – 8pm
Gotham Comedy Club
(208 West 23rd Street): If you are looking for a good laugh after a less than laughable first three days of the work week, then Gotham Comedy Club is a good place to visit this evening. They are showcasing young talent, which means you haven’t heard these jokes before. Gotham Comedy Club is renowned for creating some of the biggest names in comedy, and their recent showcases haven’t deviated from their past. So give these young comedians some love, put up the two-drink minimum, and holla at a Gotham Comedy Club near you ASAP!

Eco-Fashion – Sometime tonight!
FIT
(Seventh Avenue at 27th Street): In case you were wondering, FIT is more than just fashion, it’s a lifestyle—an eco-friendly one at that! Tonight, FIT presents “Eco-Fashion: Going Green,” which will put fashion’s relationship with the environment on display for all New Yorkers to see. This show will promote ethical, sustainable, eco-conscious, fashion-making efforts in hopes that the fashion industry and other industries can recognize how we all can play a part in saving this world of ours. If you’re interested in checking it out, go to the FIT website—admission is free.
