It’s what you would call July 4th Eve if there was such a thing. Even if there isn’t, we’re going to celebrate like it is. For those of you who don’t have Monday off, this is your night to do some damage. If you do have Monday off, let’s just call this the calm before the storm. Here is the Saturday Nightlife Rundown for July 3, 2010.
The 39th Annual International African Arts Festival – 10am
Commodore Barry Park (Navy Street, Downtown Brooklyn): From iaafestival.org:
The 39th Annual International African Arts Festival starts Friday, July 2nd through Monday, July 5th, from 10 :00 am until 9:00 pm, at the spacious Commodore Barry Park, at the intersection of Park Avenue and Navy Street, Brooklyn, NY 11205… Festival goers will gather each day to enjoy live music, dance, spoken word performances, African marketplace, showcase performances, fashion, and hair shows. Children of all ages can enjoy an exciting children’s program featuring storytelling, clowns, and a youth talent search… This year’s theme is: Freedom Now.
The BBQ – 2pm
Highbar (251 West 48th Street): It’s Saturday, you have nothing to do, and perhaps you need a little practice for tomorrow. So for a refresher on how to party during the day, why not stop by Highbar for one of New York City’s best daytime parties of the summer? This weekly event puts the “sum” back in summer with its addition of a variety of party favors. From cocktails and beers, to margaritas and wine, drinks are certainly well taken care of. There is an actual BBQ, so you can buy all of your favorite grilled-up finger foods. Definitely bring your wallet though, because despite the lack of a cover, this food doesn’t come cheap.
The Hottest Saturday Night – 9pm
Empire Hotel Rooftop (44 West 63rd Street): Take part in the diverse affair going on atop the roof of Empire Hotel this Saturday, when young professionals come from out their cubicles and onto the beautiful lounge that is the Empire Rooftop lounge. To me, there is nothing better than a New York City night. With the lights beaming, the wind blowing, and a nice, comfortable temperature against your skin, NYC nighttime weather always puts you in the right frame of mind. So take advantage of it and spend your night outdoors, where you can drink, eat, dance and party until the sun comes up. As for New York City’s daytime weather—well, I’ve had better.
Couples & Singles, Indoors or Outdoors to Mingle – 10pm
RDV East (125 Tuckahoe Road, Hamptons, NY): For those of you that will spend the weekend in the Hamptons, I suggest you hit up RDV East on Saturday night. This will be the party of the night in the Hamptons, as young professionals from across the New York City metro area embark upon RDV East for a true summer affair. You can party inside or outside, with your loved one or with somebody else’s, either way, the party is sure to be off the chain. It will be a diverse affair, and a pricey cover charge might await you (we’re not sure), but if you’re in the Hamptons, you don’t have anything better to do at 10 o’clock at night.
Epic Saturdays – 10pm
Soiree (199 Bowery Street): If you’re looking for a sexy, trendy affair, how could you do better than a place named Soiree? You can’t! A primarily latino event, DJ Kast will work the 1’s and 2’s with plenty of latin music that is sure to have his and hers hips moving at mesmerizing speeds. Drinks are on special from 10pm to 11:30pm, and ladies are free until midnight.
Juelz Santana College Bash – 10pm
The Palace (34-10 Linden Place): For those of you real-world babies, here’s an event catered specifically to the youngest of New York professionals. This college bash is in conjunction with Juelz Santana (who may or may not perform). Whether he takes the stage or not, you can rest assure that this place will be littered with beautiful people, big names and boisterous music. Enjoy.
