Technically, I’m not sure whether or not we can call this a Super Bowl party, but given that Black Oak Nights is theoretically a “news” site, can’t we kind of say it is as part of our rights as journalists? I have no clue, but what I do know is that if you want to watch the “Big Game” on February 6 at 2011, then you better head over to Crash Mansion (199 Bowery Street, Lower East Side, Manhattan, New York City) for a Super Bowl party for the ages. RSVP on our Facebook page…

Have you started thinking about where you are going to watch the Super Bowl yet? If you haven’t, you better get on it, because everyone around you is making those plans. Don’t worry! Black Oak Nights has you covered! Along with Ifill events, Black Oak Nights is co-hosting a Super Bowl Party at the ultra-fun nightclub, Crash Mansion. The deal includes:

Free admission

A non-mandatory, $20-cover, beer open-bar

Dirt cheap food specials

$2 Specialty shots all night long

That’s right, come get your drink on and your food on at Crash Mansion on Super Bowl Sunday. Crash will be one of the few places that isn’t serving a cover charge just for you to get in the door, and with an optional all-you-can-drink beer open bar, it’s going to be hard for you to justify shelling out over $80 of beer for you and a few friends. Besides, who has time to make their own wings, bake a pizza and wash the dishes? Not me!

This is New York City, and time is of the essence! You cut out thinks like washing laundry, jogging in the park and going to the grocery store all because of inconvenience. And when you do finally have to go somewhere, you spend way more time doing so than you ever intended. You’re better off spending your time watching football sans the hassle. So with your $20 beer charge in hand, meet us, your friends and friends of friends at Crash Mansion on February 6, 2011 and root for whichever team is going to make you most happy with a win, and if not, at least you would have gotten a ton of beer out of it!

Monday, January 31, 2011

Sushi & Sake 101 Classes – 7pm
Sushi Samba, 87 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY

From their mouth, to your ears, Sushi Samba, one of New York City’s best places for sushi, is teaching you the Japanese art of the sushi and sake dinner. In these classes, you will learn about the different kinds of sake, use specialty sushi-making tools, learn from Sushi Samba’s own lead chef, and of course, eat and drink throughout the entire night. So if you are down for the sushi, sake and making your own tempura and sashimi, then this is the event for you. It is a bit pricey at $85 per person, but you won’t have more fun at dinner than you will with this class. So get friends, come hungry and be ready for Sushi & Sake 101.

MTV Made Viewing Party – 6pm
The Soho Room, 203 Spring Street, New York, NY

If you routinely watch MTV, and what young, black professional doesn’t (wink, wink), then you know about Abiola Abrams, the infamous teen dating coach on cable television. Of course, her skills extend beyond teen dating, as she knows how to get adults in the right frame of mind when it comes to courting and being courted, especially in New York City. So swing through the Soho Room and check out what she has to say this Monday night. In the process, you will get to play dating games and get a hold of free cupcakes while drinking the evening way. Also, as the title denotes, MTV will air a screening of MTV’s Made at the Soho Room, and one can only guess what this one is about.

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Wines of the World Tasting – 7pm
Vintage Irving, 118A East 15th Street, New York, NY

Okay, if you’re a novice wine drinker like me, then perhaps you want to swing through this beginner’s wine tasting, where your knowledge of wineries and Merlot, or lack thereof, is not something that will be held against you. Instead, Wine Director Eric Blair will coach you through tastings of red and white grape wines from across the country. This is another pricey event for an early work-week affair, but even at $100 per person, this event offers value, class and a lesson in wine that many us budding, young, black professionals need.

Luxurious Tuesdays – 5pm
Negril Village, 70 W. 3rd Street, Greenwich Village, NYC

Negril Village is at again, with a night full of partying down in Greenwich. Take your early week frustrations out on the dance floor, as DJ Snap delivers hip-hop and reggae music all night long. As usual, you can bet on a heavy dose of rum punch and authentic Caribbean cuisine from the kitchen of Negril Village. As if that weren’t enough reason to get you to leave work early this Tuesday, perhaps knowing that young, black professionals from across New York City have been making this a destination for years, and it really is an affair that every New Yorker should experience.

Sunday, February 6, 2011

Super Bowl Party – 6pm
Crash Mansion, 199 Bowery Streeet

And of course, don’t forget about our Super Bowl Party this Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Crash Mansion. The beer will be flowing, the food will keep on coming, and the Pittsburgh Steelers will reign supreme! Oh, wait! Did I just say that! Just kidding! Go Packers! RSVP for this New York City Super Bowl party on Facebook…

This Tuesday and Wednesday won’t turn out to be the best weather days ever, but to the always thriving, young, black professional, New York City is your oyster in rain, sleet, snow or below zero temperatures. On January 25th and 26th, enjoy the President’s State of the Union with socialites, party out in Queens, or get down with other young, black professionals at Greenhouse Nightclub. Here is your Tuesday and Wednesday rundown…

Tuesday Rundown – January 25, 2011

Free Ladies Factor Event – 8pm
S Factor, 226 E. 54th Street, New York City

Okay ladies, so if you are interested in learning a thing or two about the art of seductive dancing, this is your chance to do so without coming out of pocket for it. The queen of all things pole dancing and strip teasing, Sheila Kelly, is giving out her tips, tricks and hints on the art of seducing a man through dance. Nuvo cocktails will spread like wild fire at this event, and you might need it as Ms. Kelly gets you out of your comfort zone and into the heat that is pole dancing. Don’t worry; it’s supposed to be a really classy, stand-up, supportive event, and no men will be in the building—thereby, eliminating any “creepy” factor that would have existed should say Flavor Flave just happen to be roaming the building.

I Love Tuesdays – 10pm
Perfections, 4-38 Steinway St., Astoria, Queens, New York

You all know that I don’t often take the Black Oak Nights crowd out of Manhattan, and when I do, it’s often to the best parts of Brooklyn. This time, however, I’m taking it to Queens, where DJ Camilo is spinning the 1’s and 2’s at Perfections night club. This just may be the most fun Tuesday night event of the month, so don’t let a little thing like distance and Queens get in your way. Admission is free on the Belo Productions list, and there are some moderate bottle specials for all of you big spenders. Sure, you could keep it close to home and stay in Manhattan, but where’s the fun in that on a Tuesday?

Annual State of the Union Dinner – 7:30pm
Le Cirque, Manhattan, New York City

If you are looking for a place to watch President Obama’s State of the Union address, you can go ahead and get yourself a seat at Le Cirque. While the address won’t start until 9pm, the dinner starts at 7:30pm and the chatting probably starts well before that. Le Cirque will play host to some of New York City’s biggest and grandest socialites, politicians, philanthropists and otherwise notable people. It’s an invite only event, but we encourage you to politely get yourself on the guest list if at all possible, because I can’t think of a more appropriate place to watch a highly, over hyped event than Le Cirque.

Wednesday Rundown: January 26, 2011

Late Night – 10pm
La Pomme, 37 W. 26th Street, Flatiron, Manhattan, NYC

Well, young, black professionals, your mid-day party of the week is here. At La Pomme tonight, expect the bottles to be flowing and the models to be rolling. This popular after work spot may not exactly be Hotel Rivington, but plenty of hard-working, individuals in the Flatiron and Chelsea parts of the city make La Pomme their preferred destination after a long 10 hours on the job. That’s right! I said 10 hours! In fact, if you aren’t working 10 hours a week and still think you have the time to be at La Pomme tonight, your bank account better be fat! Not because La Pomme is the most expensive place in the world, just because you don’t need to partake in tonight’s cheap, cheap happy hour specials unless you’re earning your keep for the race during the day!

Thursdays at Green house – 11pm
Greenhouse, 150 Varick St., Manhattan, NYC

Ladies, once again, you all are free, and this time, the fairer sex does not pay anything before 1am. That’s a nice deal, especially when you consider the kind of deals that they have going on at Green House this Wednesday night. From drink specials and half off for the fellas, Greenhouse is set for party record-breaking event on Hump Day. DJ Miester will help you reach your goals with a myriad of today’s best hip-hop, R&B and Top 40 music. And I f you need him to mash-up a song or two for you, he’s more than capable of pleasing a crowd—even one as refined as that of the Black Oak Nights readership!

Don’t let the snow ruin your weekend! In fact, take advantage of it. Plenty of people will avoid the clubs and bars this Friday and Saturday, thus, making them that much more pleasant to be in and a little bit cleaner too. In addition, anybody who treks through the snow to make it to a bar this weekend is clearly looking for a good time. So my bet is that anywhere you can find a bunch of young black professionals this weekend is a place that is going to be whole lot of fun. Here is the Weekend Rundown for January 21st and January 22, 2011.

Friday Rundown – January 21, 2011

Free Open Rum Bar – 5:30pm to 11pm
Empire Hotel Rooftop, 44 W. 63rd St., Manhattan, NYC

Get your Friday off to the right start by taking over the Empire Hotel Rooftop’s open bar this Friday evening. Today’s after work part includes all the rum you can drink atop one of New York City’s most visited rooftop venues. Sure, the snow probably doesn’t make being outside the most exciting thing in the world, but fortunately, Empire Hotel’s rooftop is completely heated and they should have the rooftop clear of all snow well before the party gets going at 5:30pm this evening. So leave the snow boots at home, get your sexy on, and make your way over to Empire Hotel Rooftop with all of the other young, black professionals.

Fridays at Taj – 10pm
Taj, 48 W. 21st Street, Chelsea, Manhattan, NYC

Ah, the wonderful Taj Lounge! Where else would you be on a Friday night? This Friday should be all the more special, as Showtime Entertainment brings in one of New York City’s sexiest, young, black crowds. The party will be bumping with plenty of hip-hop music from DJ Cr8, and there will be a taste of Latin music as well. Ladies are free until midnight if you tell them you are on the Showtime list, and gentlemen get the dreaded reduced tab all night long.

First Kiss Fridays – 10pm
Suzie Wong’s, 547 W. 27th Street, Manhattan, NYC

Suzie Wong’s always gets it going on Friday nights, and this night is no different. Tonight they continue to honor birthday guests and large groups with complimentary bottles of champagne. Of course, service like that comes with a door charge, so be prepared. Nonetheless, it’s going to be the place to be tonight, as DJ SNS kills the 1’s and 2’s with nothing but hip-hop and R&B music. In addition, there is a Ciroc special, in which you can get 2 bottles of P. Diddy’s heavily promoted elixir for a mere $400. Yeah, you might have to be on baler status to truly afford that price tag, but with a big enough group, you can knock that out with little fanfare, no?

Saturday Rundown – January 22, 2011

Webster Fridays – 10pm
Webster Hall, 125 E. 11th St., Manhattan, NYC

Hey, if you knew what Webster Hall charges on a typical night, then you would be really excited about the fact that tonight, you can get in for free! On the AC List (that’s what you tell them of course), ladies and gentlemen are free this Saturday night, and it comes with no strings attached. As for the party itself, Webster Hall has all of your bases covered. There are drink specials, hip-hop music, Latin music, and even some house music for those young, black professionals that have been out on the town one too many times when they were out of their element—so to speak. And if you didn’t know, Saturday is probably the most popular night of the week at Webster Hall, so if you want to get in, make sure you get here early—besides, who wants to stand in the snow for that long?

Pretty Girls Rock Saturdays – 10:30pm
Roam, 5 E. 19th St., Manhattan, NYC

Oh, the joys of being a lady. Sure, many of you will go through the process of birthing a baby, but it all evens out since you get to get into all of these nightclubs for free, right? Just kidding. No emails please! Naturally, ladies are free at before midnight this Saturday night, and fellas are not. But guys, this is definitely a party you are going to want to pay for. I assure you that plenty, of young, sexy, black professionals will be in the building, and few other places will rival the level of talent, from women and men, at Roam tonight.

That being said, we think we have a few events that can help you make the best of your Monday and Tuesday. So without further adieu my young, black professionals, here is your Monday and Tuesday Nightlife Rundown for January 17 and January 18, 2011.

Monday Rundown

SyFy’s “Being Human” Premiere & Party – 8pm
Eight Mile Creek, 240 Mulberry Street, Soho, Manhattan, NYC

SyFy just hired a new person to be in charge of their programming, and already they are throwing parties. Okay, maybe this particular event was planned ahead of his arrival; nonetheless, you should be there to be a part of one heck of a screening. Whether you’re a science-fiction fan or not, SyFy always has great original programming and this won’t be any difference. So be sure to come through. It’s free, and you can get tickets at http://bit.ly/gCRYd5.

Free Entry to Museum of the Moving Image – All Day
Museum of the Moving Image, 3601 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, NYC

The Museum of the Moving Image is reopening, and if anybody knows how to throw a party, it’s people that have documented Hollywood for the majority of their lives! The Free admission won’t last long, not at this oft-visited museum. So come get your culture on, learn a thing or two about how that favorite movie of yours was created and enjoy doing something for free in Manhattan!

Monday Night Madness – 6pm
Slate, 54 West 21st Street, Chelsea, Manhattan, NYC

Monday Night Football may be over, but Slate’s Monday night party isn’t. If you haven’t been before, let me tell you, this is one of the more fun after work events of the week. Young, black professionals and twenty-somethings of all races embark upon this popular fun-house and bar like snow upon the Eastern Seaboard! Nothing but hip-hop music is played, thus inspiring quite the dance party, and of course, drink specials help liven up the mood and your Monday blues.

Tuesday Rundown

Luxurious Tuesdays – 5pm
Negril Village, 70 W. 3rd Street, Greenwich Village, Manhattan, NYC

Need I say anything more? It’s Luxurious Tuesday at Negril Village, which means you can come get your weekly fix of reggae music, Caribbean cuisine and rum punch in about as dissimilar a place from Jamaica as possible—Greenwich Village. Granted, the number of people who smoke weed in this part of New York City is probably quite comparable to that of Ocho Rios, but Jamaica it is not. Nevertheless, Negril Village in and of itself is as authentic as it gets when it comes to Caribbean fare, so get ready for some Calypso music this Tuesday, and do the damn thing after work at Negril Village.

Velour Tuesdays – 10pm
Velour, 297 Tenth Avenue, Meatpacking District, Manhattan, NYC

Tuesday nights don’t have to be for staying in. In fact, a Tuesday at Velour will almost guarantee that you won’t rush home after work on Tuesday just to watch some television show. If anything, you will want to rush home to change into something sexy, which would be quite apropos given that you get a free shot of “Sex on the Beach” if you let them know Clubplanet sent you! The DJ will blast hip-hop and R&B music all night long, so there’s no excuse to stand on the wall this Tuesday night. So clear your schedule and get your butt over to Velour this Tuesday for one of the best nights of the week!

Stage Fight @ Crash Mansion – 7pm
Crash Mansion, 199 Bowery, Lower East Side, Manhattan, NYC

If you need a quick fix of music this Tuesday night, then make Crash Mansion your first stop after work. This Tuesday night is Crash Mansion’s monthly underground, music battle between all kinds of artists from across the five boroughs. This event is so popular that you have to RSVP to take advantage of the free entry (you can RSVP at clubplanet.com). However, it’s only $5 if you forget to RSVP, so there really are no excuses not to come through. Warning! This isn’t exactly the type of music battle that went down in Brooklyn and Harlem back in the early 80’s, but these artists are quite the entertainers, so it can still be enjoyed by our readership.

Alright, young, black professionals of Black Oak Nights! It’s time to take advantage of Thursday night, because after all, it’s already the second Thursday of the year, and we only have 50 more to go in 2011! Thus, you need to get your work done early, head over to your favorite after work spot, and enjoy an early weekend drink—compliments of your own sanity.

Seriously, don’t stay at work too long, because that mess will stress you out. Not to compare anybody’s job to that of the President’s, but have you seen how his head has went from black to old-man’s gray in just a matter of two years? It’s unbelievable! Don’t let that be you! You’re too young, and none of you have to put up with the stress Barack does—so stop choosing to do so! Just hit up your favorite bar, or check out one of the events below, and toast your first drink to staying young and avoiding the grays. Here is your Thursday Nightlife Rundown for January 13, 2011.

Jazz & Gris-Gris – 6pm
Boom Boom Room, 848 Washington St., Manhattan, NYC

If you don’t already know about the Boom Boom Room, what have you been doing with yourself? Tonight, the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans is hosting a celebration of to raise money for the restoration of homes in New Orleans. You can contribute by coming through and listening to some of New Orleans best jazz performers, including Dr. John Kermit Ruffins and the Derek Douget Band. You won’t get to hear authentic jazz music like this on a regular basis here in New York City. So if you’re a jazz enthusiast, or a musical enthusiast of any sort for that matter, get your butt down to the Boom Boom Room, shake your boom boom, and help contribute to a cause that’s going to help a lot of unfortunate black people back down south.

The Chelsea Room Artists Showcase Party – 7pm
Chelsea Hotel, Chelsea, Manhattan, NYC

Enjoy yourself in this art showcase, as some of New York City’s finest artists express themselves at one of Manhattan’s better venues. The Chelsea Hotel will play host to an exhibit of expressionist artwork and newly minted portraits. After you’re done getting your “art” on, the party starts up at 9pm, upon which this place will really get imaginative.

Advanced Notice!
The Wayans Brothers: Marlon and Shawn – February 10th – February 13th
Caroline’s, 1626 Broadway, Manhattan, NYC

If you are looking for something to do this Valentine’s Day Weekend, you need look no further than two of the funniest black people on earth. The first family of black comedy is sending the two youngins over to Caroline’s in February! These two guys have produced and starred in movies, but they are returning back home to New York City and they are taking it to the stage. If you haven’t seen these two alone with a microphone before, you are in for a treat. So get your tickets now at Carolines.com while you still can.

Pure Love Thursdays – 10pm
Taj Lounge, 48 W. 21st Street, Manhattan, NYC

If you are looking to get your bump-and-grind on tonight, Taj Lounge is the place to be. At Taj tonight, plenty of young, black professionals will be ripping up the dance floor and turning the place out, as DJ Will and DJ Self rip the 1’s and 2’s with plenty of R&B, Classics and Hip-hop music all night long. Warning! If you are looking for classical, evening affair, this is not it. But if you’re in the mood for some unmitigated fun, subject to the craziness, artful and sometimes uncalled for celebratory actions of the black race while in nightclubs, then this is the party for you.

It’s Tuesday, people! So get over the Monday blues, and walk into a terrific Tuesday. The only thing keeping you from getting your week off to a good start is the impending snow that’s headed here tonight. Don’t fret; you should be well into your second happy hour of the night before a flake even touches the ground. Here is the January 11, 2011 Tuesday Rundown for all of our beautiful, young, black professionals in New York City!

The Restaurateur: Film Screening – 8pm
92nd Y, 1395 Lexington Avenue, Upper East Side, New York City

Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too? For those of us who love a good entrée and a show, you can enjoy a documentary about food! This documentary took 12 years to make and it chronicles the creation of two of New York City’s most famed and decadent restaurants. The directors of the film will be on hand to answer any of your questions, which should delight all of our film noir lovers out there. Tickets are $29, and you can purchase those at 92y.org.

Yes Tuesdays! – 2pm
Moca Lounge, 2210 Eight Avenue, Central Harlem, New York City

One of the best kept secrets on Earth is Harlem’s Moca Lounge, which sits in the crisp and clean section of Central Harlem. It’s hard to beat a happy hour that gets cranking at 2pm in the afternoon, but the drinks are wonderful, the food is delish, and the young, black professionals that mysteriously find their ways uptown, away from work and in this lounge at 3pm—well, they’re a handful.

Luxurious Tuesdays – 4pm
Negril Village, 70 W. 3rd Street, Greenwich Village, New York City

If 2pm is too early for you to pull the sick card on your boss, maybe 4pm will work? That’s when Negril Village gets popping with the best after work party in the city. If you like Caribbean food, I don’t know why you would go anywhere else this evening. Negril’s selection of custom, fresh, Jamaican cuisine has made me travel from the Upper West Side all the way downtown just to scoop up something to go. As for the party, it’s always live. The rum punch seems to help people relax from the stresses of the work week, and the music certainly puts everyone’s mind at ease. Of course, if you’re not down for dancing, there is plenty of intelligent conversation to be had, as the crowd here is trendy, on point, and about as classy as you want it to be.

Comedy Talent Showcase – 8pm
Gotham Comedy Club, 208 W. 23rd Street, Chelsea, New York City

If you’ve done the New York City comedy scene three and four times over and are in need of some fresh jokes, then this is the event you want to be at this Tuesday night. The New Talent Showcase at Gotham Comedy club is always one of the most anticipated shows on the club’s calendar, because it gives the regular comedy-goers a chance at some new blood. Sure, you never know what you’re going to get, and there could be some stinkers on the stage. However, there’s always at least one diamond in the rough that makes the two-drink minimum worth it.

It’s Monday people! It’s the second Monday of the year. Only 50 more to go until New Year’s Eve. Black Oak Nights has a lot in store for the young, black professional this year, and we hope you will join us for the ride. You can start off by checking out any of the events on today’s rundown, and by friending us on Facebook as well. See you on the social networks!

Here is our Monday Nightlife Rundown for January 10, 2011.

Urban Mom Squad: Pizza-Making Class – 7pm
New York Vinters, 21 Warren Street, New York, NY

If you are a mother, and believe it or not, our readership has its share, then you may want to use this Monday to get out of the house and partake in some friendly, conversation and pizza-making with other urban moms like yourself. The Urban Mom Squad is frequently putting together social events and gatherings for mothers trying to make it in this city that caters more to singles and the non-child bearing than those of you who actually decide to grow up and create prosperity. Tonight’s event will allow you the opportunity to talk to like people while scarfing back a pizza creation of your own making. The event will run you $30, but you can check it out, past pictures and all, at the urbangirlsquad.com site.

NCAA Football National Championship Game – 8pm
1849, 183 Bleecker Street, New York, NY

If you are looking for a place to watch the soon-to-be erased from the history books Cam Cameron take on the oft-imprisoned Oregon Ducks in college football’s national championship game, than look no farther than 1849 in the heart of Greenwich Village. After all, this is college football, and there is nowhere else in Manhattan with as many co-eds per square foot as there are in Greenwich Village. On Mondays, 1849 is always serving it up right with the specials, so you can get your fill of buffalo wings, well drinks, beer and fries for prices that will take you back to the days when pints at the campus bar were a mere 2-cents. Of course, you didn’t go to school in New York City if that was the case, but that’s neither here nor there.

Motion Mondays – 10pm
Promenade, 215 W. 28th Street, Manhattan, NY

I don’t know about you, but that weekend went by as fast as hell. Maybe it was all of the waiting I did between NFL playoff games. But I digress. If you need to extend your weekend pleasure, then get your booty over to Promenade tonight, where the weekend fun never stops, and neither do the booties. Dancing, prancing, gaming and talking will take place here from 10pm until the wee hours of the morning. Entry is free, so there is no need to rush your butt over. Take your time. chill-ax after work, put on that club outfit that you were going to save for this weekend, and get the strutting over at Promenade tonight, where plenty of young, black professionals will be in the building and on the dance floor, for what should be the best Monday night party of the year to-date!

Harlow’s Hide-a-way – 8:30pm
Crash Mansion, 199 Bowery, New York, NY

So, we have saved this for last because if probably is of interest to only a select “half” of our audience. This risqué revue has been featured at numerous places across the New York City landscape, and tonight, Harlow brings her cast of seductive characters to Crash Mansion, where elevated stages, intense lighting and a classy clientele add up for one heck of night in the Lower East Side.
