Another work week is drawing to its end, and that means another weekend of partying has arrived. There are plenty of things going on this weekend, here are 3 of the top events going down this weekend in New York City.

Primetime Thursdays
Check out this weekly event going down at Prime, located at 511 West 28th Street. It’s a beautiful venue, and the party is even more breathtaking. Over the past couple of weeks, many swanky crowds have come through the doors, including the entourages of Red Café, Fabulous and Ghostface Killa. This week, there will be a special Hip Hop vs. Reggae Faceoff, which should be an entertaining display of some of music’s biggest and greatest innovators. Ladies are free until 12:30 with RSVP (646-261-1328), and Fellas are free until midnight. So check out Primetime Thursdays tonight and every Thursday night over at Prime.

World Famous Fridays
In an exhibition of pure, unadulterated fun, World Famous Fridays at Club H2O (24th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues) is one of the best places to get down at the end of the week. I’ve been to the event a couple of times, and it was well worth the price of admission. But you don’t even have to pay the price of admission if you get there before midnight because everyone who does is free. After midnight, it’s $20. The event is a broad diversity of the African Diaspora, and the music will reflect that with plenty of R&B, Hip-Hop and Reggae music. There are plenty of bottle specials and great opportunities for birthdays and other private parties. Holla at Club H2O for the details.

BB King
One of the longest running events in New York City is Saturday Night Live at BB King’s on 42nd Street. So excuse me if you’ve already been, but then again, if you’ve been there you probably already know that it is well worth the return visit. It’s set up in the lovely venue that is BB King’s and young, black professionals from all over New York City come through to partake in the mayhem that ensues. The music, the eye candy, the drinks, the food, and everything else is top notch, and the high quality crew of people that keep coming every week will tell you the same thing. It’s free if you RSVP (text 646-270-2807), and it’s $20 if you don’t. DJ Self and DJ Norie are on the 1’s and 2’s along with other notable names spinning tunes, as well.

Yes, even though Thursday and Friday were crazy, the parties will not slow down one bit…

10:00 PM Sex and the City Meets Harlem @ Revival – 127 Street & 8th Avenue, New York, NY – I know you’ve seen the movie, now venture up to Harlem (somewhere the ladies of Sex & the City never frequented) for the party! If you’re on the guestlist, it’s completely free to get in. Otherwise it’s 20-bones, and considering how wild it may get here this Saturday, you may want to save that for the cab ride home that you’re going to have to take. Get here early though, because it will get crowded. And come out and support a Harlem-based establishment; you do it so rarely, so why not give it a chance this Saturday, June 21, 2008?
10:00 PM – Sheer Elegance @ Mars 2112 – 1633 Broadway, New York, NY – As if I have to beg you to go to Mars 2112! This is one of the best venues in the NYC, and if sheer elegance is the mantra, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to show up! The Ladies are free if on the guestlist, and there are plenty of bottle specials this evening. Come dressed correct though, they aren’t letting anyone in who isn’t the picture of “sheer elegance”
11:00 PM – Saturday Night live @ BB Kings237 West 42nd Street, New York, NY – Now, you know that at BB Kings, nothing other than R&B, Hip-Hop, Reggae and the Blues are going to come out of the DJ booth! And you also know that the kind folks at BB Kings wouldn’t overcharge you, which is why there is free admission until midnight! This has been one of the longest running events in Manhattan, so you know that this is the place to be. I know I’ll be there, so I recommend you join me and some of the Black Oak Nights crew. We’ll be doing it up, and you should be too!

Friday, July 4, 2008

You’ve enjoyed the Bar-B-Que, the liquor, the friends, and the music all day long… so why stop?

10:00 PM – A State of Independence @ Deco – DJ Velocity. DJ Mastermind. Deco, in the heart of downtown Manhattan. A free entry for ladies until midnight. Need I say more?

10:00 PM – Luxury Tax @ The Playhouse – Who said you can’t find a party with just Reggae and Calypso music on July 4th? If it was you, you were mistaken. And if you don’t believe me, check out the “Luxury Tax” event at The Playhouse this Friday, where you are sure to find some of the most entertaining, upscale, young, black, reggae dancers in all of New York City! And if you’re ready to splurge some of that July 4th bonus money (yes, some people do get those), then The Playhouse is offering VIP access to a few people who contact them at 646.644.3551.

10:00 PM – Simple and Sexy Fridays @ Strata – The boys of Stand Firm Entertainment are doing it big at Strata once again! You know Black Oak Nights has worked closely with this group, so you also know that they’ve got their stuff in order. So guys get your collared shirts out, and ladies, make sure you have on your Weekend Best attire, because truth be told, their ain’t nothing simple about being sexy!

10:00 PM – All White Affair @ Peppers Lounge – So you must’ve already come to the conclusion that you better not where any white to that Bar-B-Que today, right? You’ll need it for tonight’s event at Peppers Lounge, where they will turn your Independence Day into a night of utter autonomy. Let your inhibitions run wild as DJ Soulja gets on the 1’s and 2’s. Get there early to get in free!

10:00 PM – A Night in White @ Taj – Let’s be real here, can you really have too many All-White parties on July 4th! Of course not! That’s why Taj will be no different this Independence Day. So after you catch the popping of the fireworks on the water, come pop some bottles at Taj, where they are basically having a sale on liquor! You can get a bottle of Moet White for just $100, 2 bottles of Absolute for $550, and 2 bottles of Grey Goose or Hennessey for $650. Just one thing, you’ll have to change out of the shorts and tank-tops with the bar-b-que stains from your July 4th cookout before you show up, because they are strictly enforcing an elite dress code!

Thursday, July 3, 2008

It’s July 3rd, 2008, Independence Day Eve… do you know where your parties are?

10:00 PM – Governor’s Ball “All White All Night” @ Strata – Now you know you don’t have to go to work tomorrow morning, so why not get your butt on the dance floor Thursday night? If you don’t, you’ll be the only young, black, professional sitting at home in your PJ’s. The rest of them will probably be at Strata, where DJ Snatch will be leading all dancers into the night and out into Independence Day morning. This party will cost you (as most July 3rd parties will), but you can get advanced tickets by calling 917-.807.7116 for $25. The price of admission will go up at the door! This is an all-white affair, so make sure you come out in those bright whites. Even all-white sneakers are acceptable, so you know that they are serious about this!

10:00 PM – Black Budda Thursdays @ Star Lounge – So you thought Star Lounge was just for our Caucasian friends, huh? Not this Thursday! Not on Independence Eve! “Hollywood Chuck” (or so they call him) will be hosting Black Budda at Star Lounge, and that means some of NYC’s sexiest young, black, professionals will be in the building. Ladies are free and Guys are reduced before midnight. Get there early, because word on the street is that this place will be packed, and you know Star Lounge loves to turn people away at any chance they can get.

10:00 PM – 50 Cent Birthday Bash and Album Release Party @ House of Blues in Atlantic City - So it’s that time of year again, and your boy 50-cent is celebrating his birthday on the other side of the river. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the trek to A.C., you can catch a plethora of different busses from Port Authority for less than $20, and they’ll drop you off right in the heart of the boardwalk. As for the party itself, you know there will be plenty of celebrities, and of course, G-Unit will be there too! In fact, Yayo is going to perform live. And if you’ve been to the House of Blues before, you know it’s a sexy venue that can turn any ordinary party into the greatest event ever. Listen to HOT 97 for more information and free entry into the venue. Or just show up, ready to ball out, because they are treating VIPs with very special care!

Black Oak Nights – Wednesday, July 2, 2008

It’s hump day… now get over it!

5:00 PM – Professional Development Afterwork @ Deity – Just because Deity is in Brooklyn, doesn’t mean you should take it off your list. Both Deity, and this event, are going to be off the chain on Wednesday evening. Urban Pro Group is the promoter behind this event, and they are bringing young black professionals back to BK in a huge fashion! Admission is free all the way up until 8PM, and on top of that, you will get to see one of the best spoken word events in all of New York City. That’s right, amateur and professional poets alike will be on display, along with some of the hottest poets on the Brooklyn and Manhattan spoken word circuit. Also on display, is a beautiful complimentary buffet and 2-for-1 drink specials from 5-7PM. So get there early, and leave there late!

9:00 PM – The Best Kept Secret @ SOB’s – It’s not a secret anymore. This party is full of young, black, professionals looking to socialize the night away. But it’s not your grandmother’s mixer. SOB’s will be bumping, as this night kicks off the start of an early week of Independence Day celebration. Profanity Magazine is hosting the party, so you know there will at least be some “C” list people in the building (just kidding, Profanity). So come check it out, and bring your best attire with you!

Weekly Rundown: June 11th thru June 14th

Posted by Black Oak On June - 11 - 2008

Here’s the rest of the weeks Black Oak Nights Rundown, starting with what’s happening tonight…

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

7:00 PM – Okay, so “The Sugar Girls” have been trying to get me to come up to their event for a while. I may just stop by tonight, but more importantly, you’ve got to check it out yourselves! “Renaissance Wednesdays” at Body Restaurant & Lounge (12th Avenue between 135th and 136th) is getting good reviews from a lot of people close to me. They have great music from DJ Deluxe (formerly of Rap City), and the menu is about as soulful as you will find in all of Manhattan. It’s free before 9pm, and you won’t find more Harlemnites anywhere else. So roll over to “Renaissance Wednesdays” and meet some of your Harlem neighbors for the first time. You can email sugarhillgirls@gmail.com for more information.

Thursday, June 12, 2008

5:30 PM After work, go eat free food, get free drinks, and watch Game 4 of the NBA Finals…. All for free! Where can you do this? Where else by but at Nest (215 W. 28th Street)? You can get in for free by emailing afterworknest@gmail.com and RSVP’ing with your name and whatnot. Really, as a sports fan and lover of free food, I don’t know how you can avoid going to Nest this Thursday. There really is no better way to watch the NBA Finals than with a crowd of sexy, young, black, professionals, and free food and drinks. But… the open bar and free food only last till 6:30, so get there early!

6:00 PM And if Nest isn’t the spot for you, check out “Afterwork Thursdays” at Katra. That’s right, the very same Katra (217 Bowery Street) that Black Oak Nights threw a couple of parties at last Summer, is back with yet another sexy venue. They have free admission all night, 2 for 1 drink specials from 6-8pm, and $4 beer specials for all of you ale lovers. DJ Snatch One is running the booth, and you know that he’ll be spinning the best of Hip Hop, R&B and Reggae all night. And this scene is extremely super sexy, and is probably more suitable for the 25 & up crowd, because mature and professional doesn’t even begin to describe this choice crowd.

11:00 PM “Dollhouse Thursdays” are going to be hot this summer! So if you’re looking for that pre-weekend spot to hang out at this Summer, look no further than 27 West 24th Street at the Madison, where it will be going down all summer long! And this Thursday, you can look forward to their “Shorts & Stilettos” edition, where of course, ladies wearing short-shorts and stilettos get in free all night. Other than that, the price can get pretty expensive, but I’m sensing the guys might find this door cover to be worth the money. You can get a discount if you’re on the Guestlist (718-813-2840). DJ Self is there, so you know the music will be hot! So show up on time, because word is that the people on the Guestlist get in for free before midnight.

Friday, June 13, 2008

10:00 PM God, forgive me, as I will not be able to attend “Spotlight Live” this Friday night at Broadway and W. 49th Street.. Hopefully, the rest of you will be able to! Because their “Velvet Rope Fridays” are about as good as it gets. If I had the right to the pictures, believe me, I’d have them posted all over this website, but trust me, the event is live and sexy and if you think that you’re going to find a venue with more young, black professionals on a Friday night, you are probably mistaken. Velvet Rope Fridays features 3 VIP levels, 3 different DJs, no cover before midnight, and it is super exlcusive. Heck, you need a password to get in. How do you get it? Just RSVP at velvetropelist@gmail.com. And for you super ballers, please ask about the VIP Spotlight Penthouse where you get your own personal bar and an outside patio that faces Times Square. Tell’em Black Oak Nights sent you!

Saturday, June 14, 2008

10:00 PM The JI Group is bring Danger to the black masses with it’s “Dangerous Girl Event” this Saturday. This is one of their summer kick offs so it should be quite the turnout. I have it on good word from a friend that there will be plenty of young, professional, black individuals in the house (you know? Barack Obama voters…), so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to meet some young successful people (like yourselves)! Check out the Flash Presentation, and be sure to RSVP so you’re not left paying too much at the door.
