It’s official! It is the Monday of all Mondays of the year. For many of you, this is your first return to work in the New Year. While you may still be in recovery mode from Friday night, a Monday like this always deserves a drink. So from open bars to open ice, here is your Monday Nightlife Rundown for January 3, 2011!
Afterwork Salsa Mondays – 6pm
Taj Nightclub – 48 W. 21st Street, Manhattan, NYC
After a New Year’s Eve that I hope was full of dancing, why not come back strong this Monday and diversify your dance moves. Get your 2011 happy hour ventures started off right by heading over Taj Lounge and partaking in their Monday night salsa affair. There, you can learn how to salsa, salsa with beautiful men and women, and get your fill of happy hour specials on cocktails, appetizers and more. The free salsa dance lesson starts 6:30pm, so tell your boss it’s a new year, and you’ve got a new EOD out time from here on out. Hey, you have to start the precedent early in the year if you want it to be true!
Lux Mondays – 10pm
HK Lounge – 405 W. 39th Street, Manhattan, NYC
DJ Camillo is taking his talents to HK Lounge, one of the premier spots for partying on a Monday. If this is going to be the Monday of all Mondays, then you need to end it accordingly. At HK Lounge tonight, bottles will be popping and the music will be flowing, as DJ Camillo always manages to set the mood right. Not to mention, DJ Smoke and DJ D-Prizzy will be in the house, so the fun won’t stop—not even when Camillo takes his customary break away from the 1’s and 2’s. I almost forgot to mention that there will be an open bar from 10pm to 11pm, so get to HK Lounge early, and that first drink is on us!
The Daily Show Taping – 5:45pm
Studio 52 – 733 11th Avenue, Manhattan, NYC
If you are as big a fan of The Daily Show with John Stewart as the rest of the millennial world, you will be pleased to know that after a two-week hiatus, your favorite satirist will be back on the air tonight. He’s taping over on the far, far west side today, as he does every day, and you’re welcome to join the show. The line for this show starts early, so if you can’t get there until 5:45, you are better off waiting until 11pm to watch it at home on your couch. Then again, that could get in the way of heading over HK Lounge, so perhaps you need to get your priorities straight—or at least invest in a DVR.
The Rock & Roll Circus Party – 6pm
Big Apple Tent at Lincoln Center – 1865 Broadway, NYC
From NYCGO.com:
Enjoy this lineup of indie-rock up-and-comers for free at the Big Apple Circus Tent at Lincoln Center. Headlining the bill is hipster favorite Japanther, supported by like-minded psychedelic-soul obsessives Electric Tickle Machine, The So So Glos, The Pharmacy and Voxhaul Broadcast. Adding to the allure are a variety of attractions, including a Sixpoint beer pop-up. (Let’s just say we’re fans.) The event continues the following evening with a ticketed show (read: not free) with acts including Amazing Baby, Saint Motel and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, plus circus performers, tasty treats from Mexicue and more. Rockefeller Christmas Tree – All Day
Rockefeller Plaza – W. 48th to 51st Street, Manhattan, NYC
If you have not gotten a chance to see the Christmas tree yet, there is still time. The holiday season is coming to an end real soon here, and the tree will be going with it. So among other beginning of the year holiday season traditions like signing up for the gym and saying “Happy New Year” until the 14th of January, make sure you get in one last look at the tree and maybe do some ice skating while you’re at it!
