It’s Tuesday, people! So get over the Monday blues, and walk into a terrific Tuesday. The only thing keeping you from getting your week off to a good start is the impending snow that’s headed here tonight. Don’t fret; you should be well into your second happy hour of the night before a flake even touches the ground. Here is the January 11, 2011 Tuesday Rundown for all of our beautiful, young, black professionals in New York City!
The Restaurateur: Film Screening – 8pm
92nd Y, 1395 Lexington Avenue, Upper East Side, New York City
Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too? For those of us who love a good entrée and a show, you can enjoy a documentary about food! This documentary took 12 years to make and it chronicles the creation of two of New York City’s most famed and decadent restaurants. The directors of the film will be on hand to answer any of your questions, which should delight all of our film noir lovers out there. Tickets are $29, and you can purchase those at 92y.org.
Yes Tuesdays! – 2pm
Moca Lounge, 2210 Eight Avenue, Central Harlem, New York City
One of the best kept secrets on Earth is Harlem’s Moca Lounge, which sits in the crisp and clean section of Central Harlem. It’s hard to beat a happy hour that gets cranking at 2pm in the afternoon, but the drinks are wonderful, the food is delish, and the young, black professionals that mysteriously find their ways uptown, away from work and in this lounge at 3pm—well, they’re a handful.
Luxurious Tuesdays – 4pm
Negril Village, 70 W. 3rd Street, Greenwich Village, New York City
If 2pm is too early for you to pull the sick card on your boss, maybe 4pm will work? That’s when Negril Village gets popping with the best after work party in the city. If you like Caribbean food, I don’t know why you would go anywhere else this evening. Negril’s selection of custom, fresh, Jamaican cuisine has made me travel from the Upper West Side all the way downtown just to scoop up something to go. As for the party, it’s always live. The rum punch seems to help people relax from the stresses of the work week, and the music certainly puts everyone’s mind at ease. Of course, if you’re not down for dancing, there is plenty of intelligent conversation to be had, as the crowd here is trendy, on point, and about as classy as you want it to be.
Comedy Talent Showcase – 8pm
Gotham Comedy Club, 208 W. 23rd Street, Chelsea, New York City
If you’ve done the New York City comedy scene three and four times over and are in need of some fresh jokes, then this is the event you want to be at this Tuesday night. The New Talent Showcase at Gotham Comedy club is always one of the most anticipated shows on the club’s calendar, because it gives the regular comedy-goers a chance at some new blood. Sure, you never know what you’re going to get, and there could be some stinkers on the stage. However, there’s always at least one diamond in the rough that makes the two-drink minimum worth it.
