Wednesday night is here, which means young, black professionals across New York City will embark upon the finest Manhattan nightclubs and lounges to celebrate yet another “Hump Day.” I don’t know what else to say except, “Happy humping!” Here is the Wednesday Nightlife Rundown for August 11, 2010.
Afterwork Wednesdays – 5pm
La Pomme (West 26th Street between Sixth and Broadway): It’s hard to think of a better way to spend Hump Day than at La Pomme, where free bottles of champagne go out to large groups, ladies drink for free from 5:30 to 6pm, and there are $6 drink specials all night long! Not to mention, you get 2 for 1 Patron & Henny cocktails for the duration of the night, and there is a full food menu! That’s hard to beat on a Wednesday, then again, La Pomme lounge is hard to beat on any night. With DJ Kaos on the 1’s and 2’s spinning the best hip-hop mashups in the city, you will find yourself in a daze as all of the cheap liquor and great music make your workweek seem just a little bit easier.
Unforgettable Wednesdays – 10pm
Skinny (174 Orchard Street): Skinny is always tearing it up, especially on Hump Day. With $5 offerings of Patron and Absolute Vodka, you can get your fill of late night drinking done at Skinny, without the emblematic pregaming either! Multiple DJs will control what is typically a happening dance floor at Skinny, as they play nothing hip-hop, R&B and old school music. And believe it or not, this is actually a great place to network, because so many young, black professionals come here with business cards, business ideas and business plans all in hand. Hey, it’s a recession, so even the club has to be a form of networking these days.
Wednesday on the Park – 6pm
South Gate (154 Central Park South): Invite only…from GuestofaGuest.com:
Jumeirah Group, from Dubai with over 100 locations around the globe and Red Hot Group bring you an elite, fashionable and attractive evening. Wednesdays On The Park “An After Work Affair” has been voted one of the best after work gatherings in New York City. With a beautiful crowd, fantastic music and drink specials ($8 Rose Wine normally $16) there is very little reason why not to be here as soon as you leave the office. rsvp to: SouthGate@redhot-pr.com with number of guests and estimated time of arrival. No jacket required but proper dress is of course.
Poetry and Open Mic Night – 7pm
VIP Bar and Grill (835 Nostrand Avenue): I will tell you right up front, this isn’t the sexiest place in the world, but they do know how to host an Open Mic event. So if you’re up for some fresh, live performances from some of New York City’s most underground talent, this is the place to be this Wednesday night! They have great seafood on the menu and the crowd is completely on the up-and-and up—which is all the more reason to get your butt out to Brooklyn and have a good time!
